The load shedding has come to halt in urban areas of country but not in rural areas. According to PEPCO sources currently there is a shortage of 1000 megawatts.
Director General PEPCO said that shortage of 1,000MW electricity would be handled under the load management programme. There was a shortage of about 5,000 MW electricity for which Federal Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervaiz Ashraf had formed a Power System Operation Committee, which consisted of five experts to handle the issue. He observed that with sufficient gas supply to almost all thermal power generating stations, improved level of water in reservoirs and re-functioning of the closed units, which remained closed for annual maintenance work, have enabled PEPCO to stop power outages from urban areas.
